I've loved Davidson's Undead series. Used to, that is. It seems as though the more successful she has become the less care she has put into writing books. This is a good example. It takes a long time to get going, none of the characters come to life, and the solution to the "mystery" is easily guessed. Worst of all, it's really not much fun - and that was Davidson's trademark.
Some of my favorite Mary Janice Davidson books are ones like this that cross the Wyndham were wolf Pack world with that of the Queen Betsy vampire world. This book takes place after Undead and Undetermined as Marc the zombie make it obvious to those following Queen Betsy series. Rachael is sent by her leader Michael to keep an eye out on St. Paul's vampire queen Betsy to find out what their up to. The queen isn't anything like she expected. Especially when she believes that Rachel is around to collect the belongings to Toni her former werewolf resident. It soon become obvious a third party is trying to cause trouble between the vampires and the werewolves. The story makes the reader want more about the character Boo and the future of Rachel and her new boyfriend who help her sort through the mess Rachel and Betsy have to work together with to prevent a war breaking up.
