Part of the Heat series,Slow Heat is another good read, although I don't think it's as great a book as Double Play, hence only 4 stars. However, if it's your first Jill Shalvis book, it will definitely keep you coming back for more. This book follows Wade, the ace catcher on the Heat baseball team, as he struggles through a difficult pretend relationship with a woman that he is already in love with, as part of a PR exercise for the team. It is a good read - the characters are very likeable and it's easy to see through the arrogance to the vulnerable people beneath. Well recommended as a first jill Shalvis novel but does somehow fall short compared to Double Play. Definitely worth the read though but buy both novels - you'll see what I mean!

I love the first book, Double Play.Slow Heat is the next connected book but of a different hero/heroine.Both are fun and hot.I love the chemistry between the characters. If you like your heroes as professional sport players then you must give Jill Shalvis a try!Rank as good as Rachel Gibson,Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Erin McCarthy's sports men :)

This is the followup toDouble Play (Berkley Sensation). This was as good as the first book, but different because the two leads are very different to Pace and Holly from the first book. Wade is the catcher for the pacific heat team, while Sam is the publicist. Wade has a reputation as a ladies man, and now a woman is claiming she is pregnant with his baby, Wade hotly denies this, but it has made the management and the team endorsers very nervous. So Wade is being given a slap on the wrist and for the next month he and Sam must pretend to be in a relationship, neither is very happy about this as about a year ago they got stuck in a lift together for two hours, and what they did to pass time until rescue still sticks in their minds to the present day, they have never discussed what happened that day, so now with them having to pretend to be together, the next month is going to be very difficult. Wade is a man who has always enjoyed his life in and around baseball, women have always adored him he has never looked for a long term or permanent relationship. Sam is at the opposite end of the scale to Wade she does not do light and fluffy especially with Wade. During their month as "pretend" boyfriend and girlfriend they have difficulty keeping their hands off one another. This is a very good story with plenty happening to keep the reader turning the pages. ms. shalvis certainly knows how to develop her characters, she writes some of the best loves scenes I have ever read. Highly recommend this book.

My summary of the book - After a women sells her story saying she has had Wade's baby the team management and owners decide he needs good press. He ends up having to be in a pretend relationship with Sam and the first outing as a couple is to a celebrity wedding. A difficult weekend of pretence followed by a few more weeks where family problems soon get involved.

Thoughts on the characters - Samantha can't believe she is put in this predicament as she spent months trying to avoid Wade after their passionate encounter in the elevator. She has tried to get over him but having to be with him again in close proximity affects her sense and she can't stop herself falling for his charm. She runs away from it to save herself as she knows he isn't in it for the long haul but something about him keeps her going back. She is also starting to question why she is doing the job and when a family member needs her, her life changes.
Wade has always kept away from commitment but something about Samantha keeps him going after her. He isn't happy that needs a pretend relationship to give him good press but he can't resist Samantha and really pushes her buttons so he enjoy her once again. When someone from his past turns up and threatens his calm and happy existence he doesn't know what to do.
Both of them need to each other to help overcome their problems so they can have a future together.

Overall thoughts - Very sexy and with some sex scenes in places that don't involve a bed which makes it more interesting. Really good read and wish there was another one in the series.

I have to say I was quite impressed. Having read Double play before this which was good but Slow heat really ignites the reader. It might sound cliché but it was a page turner could not put it down. A great beach day read and Shalvis did not disappoint an excellent contemp romance.

I do like the style of writing, but there's not a lot of plot and it goes on and on and on.
