I was not at all disappointed with this book. Brite is the only female author I have really loved and this book stole my heart away. There is no count to how many times I have read it. Definitely worth the money and the hours you'll definitely spend reading it. It's a perfect stand-alone but read after Lost Souls it only gains to the perfection and completion factor. If you're a slight book snob and want something different, this is the way to go.

This is an excellently well written book. This author is underrated. However you DO need a strong stomach, no detail whatsoever has been spared

Drawing Blood is a fantastic novel from Poppy Z Brite. I read other books of her's first and in comparison Drawing Blood is slower to get started, but altogether builds to a massivively dramatic and involved conclusion. I love the way her books bring people in totally different situations together during the novel, it's fascinating to see how two unrelated people can randomly come together. It's impossible when reading Brite's books not to get totally emotionally involved with the characters, you too go through the trials of Zach and Trevors relationship and experiences, you will laugh with them, cry with them, worry for them, as well as many other sensations. The ending of the book is wonderfully surreal and makes a beautiful finish to brilliant story. A must-read for any Poppy Z Brite fan but also read to open your eyes to a different culture of literature. Fantastic.

This was the first Poppy Z Brite novel I read. Its not chronalogically the first, but read it anyway. Weird tale of lust and addiction set in New Orleans and the deep south. So descriptive I could almost taste it. A definite underworld favourite. If you have any interest in the gothic, comic books or the alternative scene, read this and the rest of her books, even the books that have a culinary twist - they arent what they seem.
