Midnight is the sequel / conclusion of Silverhorse.
Originally published as a Trilogy in Denmark as The Tale of Katriona Teresadatter (Silverhorse / Ermine / Kingfisher) between 1992 and 2000 the UK edition is arranged as two books.
Lene Kaaberbol is a wonderful story teller, and a fine writer who translates her own work. I wish I had had access to books this good when I was young.
The world in which the tale unfolds is thought provoking in the and the narrative compelling. Had I not already devoured the Shamer series with enormous pleasure I might not have chosen a story which appears to be about 'a girl who wants to be a horse rider' (albeit a rather special kind of horse) - but it's so much more than that... Highly recommended.
Possibly not suitable for younger children
