This is a very well constructed package and one that offers excellent value.

The Visual Quickstart series is well-established and was originally created both for those programming with HTML and some of the modern languages such as Java. It was also widely used to present guides to Microsoft Office and the major individual programs within such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint but not initially for Photoshop.

The books tend to follow a similar style but this is slightly different in that it has rather more illustrations than is usually evidenced. The book is divided into a great many chapters and most chapters are broken down into a series of 'follow me' exercises which each look at a different aspect of the program's facilities. The final chapter looks at the program's preferences and explains how most should be set and explains their options. This is quite unusual and, for many users, may alone be worth the price of the book's purchase. The book is easy to use as it is so sectionalised and you could pick and mix amongst its contents, should that suit your needs.

The main body of the book is presented in dual column format, other than the very extensive Index which is presented in 3-column format. For a book of 400-plus pages, this is one of the largest Indexes seen.

The authors are not familiar names to me but, from those sections read to date, they are clearly writing through practical experience gained over a number of years of extensive use. As the style of writing is primarily instructional, it is difficult to gain an impression of the writers' personalities or whom may have written which sections, not that it is too relevant. It is not a text-heavy book and the instructions, where they exist, are generally short and to-the-point. The more textual content, which is relatively little overall, is more open.

Very complete in content, it will for many be the only book on Photoshop CS6 that they will ever need. The video tutorial and an e-book version of this book which you can read on a portable device, both of which are on disk, add value. The majority of images used in the book are also available for download by logging in to the publisher's book page as given within which will help with the exercises.

Whenever I need a software guide for Adobe products, I search the Amazon website to see if there is a 'Visual Quickstart Guide' for it. If I find one, which I always seem to do, I look no further. These guides are, clear and easy to read, full of useful 'tips and tricks' and serve as a self-teach for new users and a very handy reference for those with more experience.
Quickstart Guides have always been good value for money, but now purchasers also get access to video tutorials and e-versions in MOBI and PDF formats at no additional cost.
In my view, these Quickstart Guides set the standard that others need to follow, and the Illustrator CS6 guide is no exception.

I've been using this series from the start and they are excellent. A better choice than the 'official' Adobe ones.

This book provides for a general introduction in main Illustrator's application appended by a series of a short video lectures which can be found on the editor's web page. It is very useful to use paper-based and video examples of the specific use of this software. Video examples are easy to understand and very useful addition to this book.

I have bought over the years several different Photoshop manuals including some very good ones such as Martin Evenings but I have to say that this Visual Quickstart Guide to CS6 tops the lot. It is comprehensive, well laid out and easy to reference with lots of useful practical examples. The presentation is excellent.

The book arrived very promptly and appears to have all you need to master the difficult illustrator programme from the beginner to the more accomplished user. A must for keen Illustrator users.

This is an excellent introduction to Photoshop CS6 for beginners and improvers. It is well written and provides comprehensive information on both tools and techniques. It is well worth buying even if you already have a book from another author on Photoshop,
