You can't beat a real map - IT based GIS doesn't always work and the OS still have the most authoritative topographic mapping. This covers part of the North Downs Way and is highly recommended. Good value and good scale for walking
For walking, hiking and visiting the coast or countryside, these maps are really essential. They are also pretty good road maps, if limited in scope. Quite often its necessary to buy two or even three maps, however, to plan a complete route. Eventually, OS will have to provide comprehensive on-line maps with wider coverage than a single map at present. For now, we must do with these. One note of caution, the maps seem to be inaccurate for National Trust locations - missing paths and roads, for example. Otherwise, they are indeed comprehensive and accurate.
