This is a great book! If you have ever wondered where North Utsire is or what it may be like to have a North Easterly Gale force 8 blowing across Lundy, then this is the book for you. Connelly reveals each of the sea areas of the shipping forecast in turn in a very easy to read format. He is quite ready to share with us his failings but he also tells the reader about life on the edge of the coast with a gentleness lost in some others writings. If you liked Bryson, Hawks etc then you will like this book, even if you don't know your Bailey from your Viking.

What a brilliant book, so well written that I feel that I've been everywhere that the author has visited.

Some of the locations are now on our bucket list.

Once starting the book I found it difficult to put it down.

Radio 4 listeners will be familiar with The Shipping Forecast- somehow comforting to hear what the brave seafarers are battling from the warmth of ones home . The names of places that roll off the tongue so thank you for adding meat to the bone

A 'must' for any fan of the shipping forecast, with some marvellous descriptions of atmosphere and rarely visited landscapes - like Finisterre, the 'end of the world'....The book would benefit from some less indulgent editing. The writer can be dryly, really, amusing. At times though the humour is both laboured and repetitive. Bought this secondhand; will keep it for now.

Great book, prompt delivery from the Book House, but the condition of this secondhand book was not as described. Description said it was "used very good", but it was barely acceptable condition. Never mind, a good read.

And when this delightful book is a magic documentary film one day my enjoyment of Charlie Connelly's journey will be complete.

Really enjoyed reading this, an amusing and interesting trip around the shipping forecast. From the more familiar seaside towns of Britain to unknown beauty spots further afield.
