Disappointing - assumes that families are nuclear
on 31 July 2012
I was very disappointed by this book, having expected something helpful for young children about different families. However, it's heteronormative (ie it refers to some families having two parents of the same sex like this is unusual) and assumes that two parents is the norm ('some families have one parent instead of two').
Try 'The great big book of families' by Mary Hoffman and Ros Asquith instead - much, much better, suitable for a wider range of children, more information, no assumptions.
