A good WW2 Fiction book as long as you remember that Sven Hassel (not his real name) has long since been discredited. He never served in the German forces, in fact his entire "war service" was in Copenhagen in his girlfriends cafe, after the war he did spent time in prison as he was also a Gestapo informer.

There are glaring errors in this book, Scottish troops all wearing kilts in the attacks on Caen, American troops with British Churchill tanks, and Canadians barbed wiring German prisoners to their tanks, but although these will grate on the nerves of history and WW2 buffs they do not detract from the flow of the story.

Worth reading but do not take it seriously.

I like Sven Hassel novels although I have to say, this one doesn't seem to have that certain 'thing' that he brings to a story. It wouldn't surprise me if someone else has wrote this in his name.
