Some of Rowan Williams' books require a lot of intellectual concentration. This doesn't. It is a simply-written but profound and inspiring book of aspects of Christian discipleship and what discipleship means in today's world. Each chapter uses as its starting point a passage from the New Testament. After an opening chapter on the general meaning of discipleship, there are chapters on:
- faith, hope and love
- forgiveness
- holiness
- faith in society
- life in the spirt.

This is a book which can be read in a single session but is better savoured more slowly, pausing to ponder and to reflect on one's own life and experience. There is much here to inspire, and challenge, any Christian. Thoroughly recommended.

Typical of Rowan's distinctive approach to theology. He manages to couple in-depth theology with every-day practicalities for applying it to all situations. It especially gives a framework for prayers.

Now on my second - or is it third - time of reading. Not because it's tough going, but because it's so profound that I enjoy reading and re-reading parts. Worth reading in small doses, simply to ponder, to understand more fully, and to apply to daily living. Certainly going to use for our Advent book in our village.

As brilliant as it had been cracked up to be. Profound yet accessible. Theology of the highest order yet expressed for the thoughtful lay person. I can't praise it enough.

I need to read this again, and again, and again. And buy another copy to pass it on to others.

This brain-dead supernaturalist bigot is actually in charge of a Cambridge college, thereby undermining the freethinking rationalist perspectives indispensable for true scholarship. It is a moral duty to fight back against the child-abusing creed sponsored by this creep.
