Superb quality - this book is part of my module, so I do need it. Would recommend students to purchase this book - buying it here is much cheaper than any physical store.

This book ('Hull') is an excellent introduction and guide to derivatives. It's also a good reference - there's enough information so that you probably won't feel you need to buy another, deeper book.
The emphasis is on a description of the various products, as well as how to price them. The emphasis stays on the theory of pricing, rather than delving right down into computer algorithms, so if you need to write derivatives software, I recommend the excellent 'C++ Design Patterns and Derivatives Pricing' by Mark Joshi - but read this book first.
This should definitely be your first book on derivatives. Only after reading several other books on derivatives, after first reading 'Hull', did I realise how clear his book is, and how some other authors manage to make things so confusing.

Good book with loads of information however to receive the answers to the end of chapter questions, one has to purchase the solutions manual which costs £40.

If you are studying for your quant finance exam this will help you a lot!
Don't worry about the latest editions, copies a few years old will be just as well

A complex book for those who are only extremely interested in this area if trading. Not for the faint-hearted.

Well written, clear examples. It is a great foundation for understanding derivatives.

Note of caution: You need to have a good understanding of mathematics as it assumes good knowledge of differentiation. I would suggest you pair this book with a financial mathematics text book.
