This book covers the mathematical side without going into to reams of unnecessary detail. The explanations are clear and understandable with worked examples to aid your understanding.
The applications are real world rather than made up. The structure isn't linear, you can selectively read through, picking out the sections you need, and there are sufficient signposts to help you navigate around the text between related topics.
I used this during my MBA studies instead of the recommended textbook and found this clearer and better, both for learning and for understanding what the statistical side was about.
Far from being dry, it re-kindled my appreciation and liking of statistics, which is saying something because I loathed the subject at A Level.
You can also use this as a starting point to using stats more in your career.
