I've got quite a few needlepoint books and this is the best I've found. There are no actual projects, but lots of ideas and illustrations of work Sian Phillips has done - pictures, cushion fronts and rugs are just a few. The 'how to' sections are very good and the diagrams are easy to understand, not like some ! I bought ' The Complete Needlepoint Course ' and found the projects way too ambitious and the diagrams showing how to work different stitches might be understood by someone who's done needlework before but they didn't help me much. Sian Phillips' book is the only one I've read from chapter one to the end as it's so well written - a pleasure to read. She explains how to put mistakes right from unpicking work, getting out stains,to mending a canvas that's been accidentally cut. Also, how to put your own designs onto blank canvas which was really useful for me as I want to design a family sampler. Unless you are already experienced at canvas embroidery, buy this book !
