Although it has a somewhat sad ending (don't worry, he doesn't die by firing squad or hanging, like some of the other poor elephants of history) the actual story of Jumbo the elephant was fascinating, and somewhat bizarre.

The book details the beginning of his life, his short spell at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, his 16 year spell at London Zoo and his trip to and short time in America, as well as the lives of the people who spent the most amount of time with him. If you are an animal lover, and interested in history, then this is a good fit.

A must read for all animal lovers. This poor little elephant who grew to become a giant pulled at my heart strings from the first page to the last. it's sad, it's funny, it's wonderful
