I have several of these box sets & this one is my new favourite. Absolutely jammed with colour & information & examples of documents of the day. The feel of the set is also one of quality as well, so anyone receiving this as a gift will certainly get the sense that they're holding something very special.
A good investment for any age or experience level & certainly interactive enough to capture anyone's interest.

For actual content some enthusiasts and Historians will find the content lacking in volume. However this book is extremely well presented with an encouraging and artistic attempt to give the book the appearance of age and patina. This to my personal taste enhances this volume and it does look good. As is typical of Richard Holmes some pullouts gives us the idea from the soldier of the day the terrible ,sad, courageous and even a logistic look at what it would have been like back then. It is nothing like as complete a volume on skirmishes , battles as say Colonel Nick lipscombes book which is also a beautiful volume and clearly does not attempt to be. However this is a very beautiful and well presented book of facts and will enhance any Military Book Collection or Library worth purchasing and one has to think of the work placed into this book which does justify its price tag - the offer price by Amazon is excellent and I recommend that you snap it up. Many plates of pictures and the pullouts makes it a showpiece with an aged antique look. I highly recommend this Richard Holmes book!

This is a fantastic read. Anyone who has an interest in the Napoleonic period must read this book. Richard Holmes has produced a study which you can enjoy time and time again. It is full of maps and documents that make it all the more enjoyable. If your interest is for pleasure or professional you will not be disappointed!

Disappointed with the quality of the item. I don't recall seeing that there was any statement saying it was a second hand item. I realise it was cheaper than normal but fell it should have been made clearer. There were a lot of blemishes on the book and its cover

Excellent book, just received it the other day and have spent every spare moment going through it since. Uniquely has lots of pull outs, maps from the era in the different chapters. Richard Holmes books are well worth the purchase for anyone with an interest in the Napoleonic era !

Bought as a present, this was enthusiastically received by someone interested in this period of history. It really brings alive the characters, politics and momentous escapades of the time. A great presentation - it's more than a book!

Complete waste of money.Do not buy unless you want a load of trivial nonsense. I have all of Holmes books and this is the worst, i can only conclude that someone was cashing in on his name.
