This overview of mission theology should become a standard student text book. In an easy to read manner Kirk sets out to explore the concept of mission and review 7 key issues in mission (evangelism, culture, justice, other religions, peace, ecology and partnership). He finishes on a reflection on the nature of the church and mission. Each theme is dealt with carefully, with a logical order of presentation. The book is written from an evangelical outlook, with a clear emphasis on the centrality of the Bible in knowing God. But this is linked with a broad appreciation of the ideas of others. The only significant omission is the views of pentecostals/AICs. The book does not aim at a comprehensive analysis of each issue where all the different viewpoints are presented, but rather presents the authors understanding outlining the views of others as they occur in his discussion. For more academic detail turn to Bosch, Transforming Mission, but as a clear, thorough introduction to mission theology there is little to compare to "What is mission?"(I should admit to knowing the author who I rate highly).

Most helpful to my Mission Study Module; got me the best Assignment Score pf the whole year! Extremely readable; a book I'll probably be referring to for years to come.

A Super book for the beginner like me. It introduces the reader directly into the heart of Mission, and is a good read.
