Ireland of the late 1970's, yes I remember it well, seems daunting enough in Bob's hometown of Dublin, in Galway it was dismal and bleak. This is the Ireland that frames Geldof's autobiography and how he went on to form the brilliant Boomtown Rats emerging later as champion humanitarian at Live Aid in 1985. Lucidly and candidly written it's a journey of self-discovery, fame, loss and whatever else life throws up! In 1980 Geldof coined his best song, an evocative tune called "Banana Republic", in essence this song is basically attempting to convey what the book is really about.
