It was very clever, the writing slick, the underlying plot a hoot, but it felt like it was a way of packaging up a play Sergio had written earlier and pushing it out as a book. So, for me, it didn't have fictional integrity. It tried very hard to hold together with some very good background story, but the play - excellent on its own - didn't quite assimilate. You could have cut it out and the story wouldn't have noticed. But if you haven't read The Naked Singularity, it's one of the best of the 21C, and the fact that it couldn't be published just shows the industry is FUBAR.
