Lack of maps makes it too hard to follow
on 22 September 2017
For a book all about a geographical area of the world over time, the lack of any maps (apart from two tiny tokenistic ones) renders the book pretty much in-readable. To discuss the biological, technological, and artistic journeys in in both historical and modern context is just too difficult to do without any graphical representation. Maps of what was being discussed, as well as their relation to modern nation states would have really helped, as well as some kind of easy to read overarching timeline.
I also found the American centric examples and introduction to the book very odd. Definitely not a book that as accessible or an easy introduction. Disappointing.
