Bought this for my husband as he was starting his nurse training. Found the book at times too technical but it is a great reference book. As a nurse myself for many years I wish I had bought this earlier.

Tried and tested part of the Oxford Handbook series, this 3rd ed has been updated and revised. Easy to read and follow, well indexed all conveniently packaged in a compact and rugged book. Most common topics are covered, with the ICD 10 and DSM-IV codes.
Overall, it is a one stop book as well as the definitive first stop for trainees in Psychiatry.

The 3rd edition of the Oxford Handbook of Psychiatry has been revised to take into the consideration the latest changes to the mental health legislation and psychiatric practice. Apart from covering every topic of relevance to anyone rotating through psychiatry, it gives both the ICD 10 and DSM-1V-TR classification codes for each diagnosis category as well the icd 10 and DSM-1V- TR criteria for different diagnosis. I found the early chapters of immense benefit as they contain a comprehensive dictionary of psychiatric symptoms and psychiatric assessment which I think are very fundamental for understanding psychiatry and clerking patients.
There is a section on evidence based psychiatry and the last chapter 26 is an index of ICD10 and DSM-1V-TR index codes.Making this a truly one stop shop for psychiatry. No one needs to carry around the small handbook of icd-10.

I think this book is comprehensive enough for anyone rotating through psychiatry- foundation doctors, GP trainees (especially) and psyche trainees. Although psychiatry trainees might need to buy other books that are more detailed. For most of us it is adequate and enough, even as a psychiatric reference book for any medical library. I recommend.

This book has become a must for not only myself but for my team (working within mental health) to quickly get a good and accurate overview of conditions and medications.

Very helpful tome. Not strictly pocket size any more as so much new material!

Rather than buy one of the £30-40 books listed at the top of the choice list, I opted to take a chance on this £15 version and am glad I did!. It's great!

As an aspiring gp this book has everything needed for a 4month rotation and much more. Simple to understand and clearly not aimed at higher level psychiatry st trainees
