Covers the sociology of religion from the related founders (Durkehim, Weber, etc) to the most modern sociologists, giving all areas of the topic a series of overlapping and academic essays on the subject from various authors. My only concerns it that this hue 1,000 page book is relatively lightly indexed; doubling the size of the index would add a mere 40 pages to it yet make it much more useful! I'd advise not reading it from front to back (like me), but nitpicking the chapters you want to read, and ticking them off as you get through them. Otherwise it is a long way to get to the stuff you're most looking forward to, whatever that is!
