This was recommended to me by my tutor at uni, and I found it incredibly useful in writing my dissertation on the Brontes. Ingham writes clearly and the book is very easy to just pick up and read. The section on the Brontes and social class was invaluable. This is the perfect buy for anyone studying the Brontes or just interested in finding out about them.

This book is expertly written, and is an excellent insight into the Bronte family and their works. From biographical to critical chapters, the book acts has an introduction to these writers but is also stimulating material for those with more knowledge on the Brontes. Chapters on subjects occuring at the time, hence the context part of the title, helps us to understand why and how the Brontes wrote their novels and what made them stand out.

Worth reading, a great all rounder.
