This is BY FAR the best book I have ever seen on World War II. It is a fact crammed encyclodedia that will please both the serious scholar and the casual reader. I cannot recommend it highly enough.--Greg Klebanoff
The most comprehensive book on the Second World War that I have ever read, and most likely ever will. This is a must have for any serious student's library. The sheer depth and coverage of all the war's major battles and powers is staggering, and presents it all in a clear, concise and encyclopedic format. Without a doubt one of the best of its kind
A great book, so well organised that you can find out what you need to know within a few minutes and more reliable than instant look-up on Wikipedia. Delivered in good condition and speedily - excellent service.
Purchased for my daughter as a reference guide etc for her Advanced Higher History - it's recommended course material. For that reason and the fact that it might end up little used once the exam is done, I got it second hand. Cannot fault the seller at all - prompt delivery, a bargain too.
The book itself is essentially an A-Z of the Second World War - it makes for an impressive companion to most of the other books in my bookcase - I lean more toward the Royal Navy but there's plenty of land and air action in there too. Anyway, back to this - practically every event is covered, an explanation to the event given - sometimes brief and at times lengthy. It's a book more for quick reference than anything else, if you want to dig deeper in to what you're looking up then you'll need to look elsewhere but this makes for fairly easy reading and if something does prick your attention, you'll be able to go away and know exactly what you're looking for.
I had been looking for a book as good as this for a long time and its ironic given that this book was published by Oxford University Press originally (not far from my location), that i could not find it anywhere except halfway across the world :) I purchased this because of its great reviews and I wanted something that encompassed World War II as a whole with lots of detail and chronology of the conflict. This does not disappoint and even has many more illustrations than I had expected. With over 1200 pages, I look forward to using this book towards improving my current understanding of the conflict.
Very good informative book that happens to be well structured, correct and substantial in terms of content. I like the level of detail that is covered from the multiple viewpoints.
