This book was recommended by my lecturer, and it helped immensely. Like most primers, it has brilliant diagrams and gives you a good foundation and understanding of the basic principles and builds gradually. Sometimes it makes leaps, but generally it is helpful and really assists learning. I always found Atkins too deep and a lot of waffle, this book is concise and focused. Cannot recommend enough.
Good outline of principles, however, unlike many OCP books, there are no practice questions at the end of each chapter, which is disappointing because I was using this for revision purposes. Other than that the book is well laid out and ideas are clearly explained.
These Oxford Chemistry Primers entered the market just over 15 years ago. Great value for an authoritative brief introduction to topics which you don't want to spend the time or money buying massive textbooks for!
