I have brought Dr Dawood's book with me on many trips abroad, and can honestly say that not only is it invaluable as a travel medicine reference, but it is also a most readable and generally informative book. Every possible condition you could suffer from -and more- are discussed in frank, matter of fact terms, along with criteria for diagnosis and treatment. Dr Dawood has put together a valuable yet lightweight resource that should be in every travellers rucksack, be they travelling to a resort in Spain or through the High Andes.

Another reviewer said that they go to this book before even the internet - that is SO true. I finally upgraded from my (even) older edition thats gone everywhere with me since the early 90s and my student days of travel. This edition is about 1/3 thicker but contains so much more info. Many an hour spent reading and dreaming of travels and then looking up what parasite or illness would be waiting there, then reading onto the next piece of travel advice. Very highly recommended.

In the internet age where information on disease preventention and treatment seems available everywhere online it might seem that books like this aren't needed - not so! This is a well written, information, comprehensive book which is equally well suited to the curious traveller to a medical professional. Once you've got this book you'll go here first, online second when looking for some information on any aspect of travel health. Very highly recommended.
