An epic poem that started the idea of different circles of hell based on the sins one has committed, it isn't a book for everyone but a poetry classic a must have for anyone who collects who is studying literary theory/ history.

The translation here is great, it is easy to follow and the rhythm and flow of the original poetry isn't lost. The notes by the Author on each canto are extremely helpful in understanding the politics and views of Dante's era

To start, the cover is fantastic, not only the artwork but it's 3d! In the way that the lines stand off of the page a little, it's pretty impressive. The book or extended poetry itself is genius, and you'll have to read it yourself to know what I mean.

Kirkpatrick's translation is at times a little brusque, compared to other more flowery attempts, but very readable. His style and ample annotations make this book a valuable aid in the study of Dante.

Definitely would recommend this book. The notes at the back of the book which act as a kind of commentary are incredibly helpful when trying to interpret the actual story. Very insightful and representative of the views of society during the time of Dante.

Anyone interested in one mans vision of hell will be interested in this book. It is a good accompaniment to the latest Dan Brown novel too.

Fantastically accessible copy of a must read classic. It is referred to so often in modern context that it is worth reading to understand the references.
