A great, detailed book of the conflict.
This is a long intense read, but explains every little details of the war.
It does get confusing at times mainly due to the Eastern European names... Although no doubt this won't effect everyone. Sometimes the author assumes knowledge too, which can lead to disjointed reading as you look up what something means etc.

The author has done a great job. I recommend this for a first read on the conflict.

A useful account of the breakup of Yugoslavia, but from a very partisan viewpoint. maybe written too close to the events where emotional involvement gets in the way of proper objectivity.

Excellent book.It provides a terrific insight into Balkan affairs .It could have dealt more with Croatian issues but was worth reading.

Excellent overview of a complex war. Like others have said would be good to have an update from 1996 but nethertheless its still an excellent read.

Both these books, by BBC jouranlists close to the action, are essential to an understanding of what went so wrong in the break-up of Yugoslavia. Misha Glenny's The Balkans gives esentail historical background, too.
