What a beautiful and inspiring book this is and how far away from a political memoir. A love story between people and between ideas this should be compulsory reading for aspiring politicians of all parties. For Labour politicians it should be a reminder that there is something far more important than a career gained by saying the right things at the right time. Jennie Lee captures the essence of a life based on true commitment - her own as well as her husband's. Bevan was a giant who never forgot the reasons for his desire for political life and yet he remained the human being who never stopped enjoying the life he was born to. An antidote to the malaise that says all politicians are the same for here is proof that they are not.
