First understand this is NOTHING against Hemingway, only the publishers. No quotation marks in places so hard to distinguish between the narration and the dialogue; words misspelt; capitals in random places ... this is a joke of an edition. Do not buy from these publishers. Should have known by the names of 'spiritual classics' and 'get thinking'.

Written in 1926, I found this slightly enjoyable. Although there were hints of anti-Semitism against one of the characters, but I'm not presuming this reflects anything other than the social climate of the times. The main female character that all the men seem to fall for didn't allure me as a reader. She seemed like an alcoholic, whose major contribution to any conversation was to say, "Stop talking rot!"...Didn't make me want to read any other Hemingway. I did like the lack of flowery language that can sometimes clog things up in your head. But the bits about how the main protagonist and his love of Bullfighting I found perplexing and slightly boring.

the book itself, was fantastic. the copy i received, however, was said to be either in good or very good condition, but was highlighted, included many notes (some of which gave away the plot), and was not far off coming apart in places

Have not read it for about 30 years. Still fresh with wonderful descriptions of Paris and Spain in the 1920s.
