What if the Nazis had won...
5 May 2019
There’s more than one alt-history of WWII that imagines other outcomes. What perhaps sets this apart is that it uses the trick of an alternative timeline to retell some of the truths of the war and the appalling genocide.
As such it’s an unusual and clever way to cover ground already covered so often in both fact and fiction.
It was fascinating seeing genuine historical documents and people woven into the narrative. Both startling and stark. A bruising read but compelling.
I was hoping for a different ending but then it wouldn’t have been the same book. Highly recommended, if bleakly compelling, both as a thriller and for anyone interested in WWII and what might have happened if the tide hasn’t turned.
