I read this book quite a few years ago and always remembered it. It isn't an easy read. The corruption of a fundamentally decent child is not an easy subject to write about, let alone to read. Heather, nick named 'Porky' by her school mates, has a hard life with a feckless father, distant mother and unruly brother. When her father becomes much too close in his relationship with his daughter, it ends up poisoning everything in Heather's life. She sees herself as undeserving of love and punishes herself and those around her, including Ali who really loves her. Sharp and sad.

Read this before and loved it so bought a copy to keep. Very well written, but then most of Moggachs' books are.

this book is unusual and I found myself getting into the character very quickly

the book focuses on some real life issues and if you are at all interested in what makes people tick and how ones childhood can affect you then this is the book for you

A good read, if rather unrelentingly depressing.

Although a novel rather than a True story, it was written with great insight into the impact of childhood sexual abuse on later life. Even though the abuse stopped, the damage was done. Sympathetic description of an inadequate father and a disillusioned mother who both failed to protect their daughter. A very sad story without sensationalism that I truly believed in and every tear shed whilst reading was for the innocent victim - PORKY

The prose had an easy flowing nature. The subject matter was very controversial which required a very "open mind" to read it. Not everybody's "cup of tea"!

Awful. Hated this book. Had no idea it was about incest. Very disturbing.
