Unforgettable unput-downable and deeply moving
on 31 July 2016
I read this book a few years ago and I still think about this wonderful story. It is one of the most moving and inspiring books I have ever read about a man and his dogs. How, against the back drop of the Afghanistan conflict, Pen rescued these dogs from a life of unspeakable cruelty and his fight to bring them home to a better life in England. His determination and love shines through and has subsequently given hope to many other service personel serving in Afghanistan, who have befriended local strays, both cats and dogs and formed a bond which gave them comfort and helped them through the terrible conflict during their tours of duty. Helping them to find a way to rescue get their new found 4 legged companions home with them when that tour ended.
There is now an interntional charity Nowzad.com which was set up to raise money to fund sending dogs and cats back to the homelands of the service people who had rescued them and still works to improve the welfare of the stray dogs and cats in Afghanistan and the brave volunteers who run the centre in Kabul. Please read the book and visit the website, like them on Facebook, follow them onTwitter and consider a donation to this wonderful charity.
