Half Brilliant, Half Hippy Weirdness
on 4 September 2017
This book is pretty 50/50. There are some amazing insights and lots of brilliant things to take away and think about. There are also loads of weird hippy things that made me want vom, and vom hard. Like making out with your partner when you're having a contraction, or a 'rush' as they like to call them. I can't think of anything I'd rather do less. One of the first stories was about a woman getting naked with another in labour (apart from her pants and maternity pad as she had herself only given birth recently) and lying with her naked boob to naked boob and experiencing contractions together. Again, vom city. If anyone else starts getting naked when I'm in labour I'm calling the police.
It's all very American but they can't help being yanks. If you're into communes and weirdness you'll probably enjoy all of this. The writer is also not that into ultrasounds as 'there haven't been enough long term studies on their safety'. Hmm. I also don't advocate having four hands inside you to guide the baby out, call me crazy but it's not for me.
That being said there a lot of things that make a lot sense in this book and I would recommend a read or at least a flick through. If you just get one piece of advice that helps you in labour then it has been worth it.
