I have had this book since 1992 and only last January I decided to read it. This book shows how badly led, supplied and trained the Soviet Army was (and probably still is) against the half trained guerrillas of the mujahidin. The book starts off in 1979 and ends in 1989 and shows all the elements of this war from doctrinal dilemma's used by the Russians to the air war. This book has huge significance in the present day situation in Afganistan, it shows the problems of the environment, to the tactics of the Mujahedin and factionlism that divides the country. One of the better books I have read about the war in Afganistan.
