Iserson has a really good writing style for what is a complicated book.

This book is aimed at providing medical care in austere environments, third world countries, post disaster areas and the such-like and includes an endless wealth of techniques and improvised tools to assist in providing medical care in what can only be a very challenging environment.

The flow of the text does not drone on as some medical texts can do, but aims to give clear and simple advice for medical teams in these environments where the resource and equipment cannot be transport (or afforded) or just does not exist.

Its a gold mine of tips and tricks - a great companion to "Where there is no Doctor". I'm not a doctor - but am frequently in places that might require improvisation - e.g. 2 weeks from the nearest jungle clinic, or maybe simply 10 minutes waiting for an ambulance in the UK. At those times we are all potentially providers of medical care beyond basic first aid.
