Points about book are as follow

Book is well written and very concise.
Explains each and every DBMS concepts in very details.
Each chapter has exercises at end.
The exercises are divided into two sets: practice exercises and exercises. The solutions for the practice exercises are publicly available at book's website.
SQL syntaxes used in this book are standard SQL language and do not follow any specific DBMS such as oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
There are lots of diagrams, tables and real life examples in book for better explanation.
Case studies are good way to explain some real life problems.
Case studies section is missing MySQL database system, which is surprised for me.

There is a lot of "fill" that does not serve any purpose other than straining the reader - it does not make the context clearer in any way. The definitions are often vaguely described or the syntax is structured in such a loose way, that the reader has to go through the paragraphs multiple times in order to comprehend the meaning. A small part of the mathematical notation does not correspond to what other authors use. It may just be me: I feel like the notation is a bit "off" the most common notation.

The examples are good and detailed, and I believe this book is okay for beginners. The book serves the purpose of teaching the reader about database systems alright, but I don't like it very much, and I believe there must be a better alternative.

Great book with all the details you may need. Sometimes it feels a bit over the top. One thing you can be sure about is that whatever you are looking for, you'll find it there.
