A Nazi occupied Britain - OK, it's been done a million times. SSGB, Fatherland and many more. However, this is definitely one of the better ones. The chief protagonist, John Rossett, the "British Lion" is a war hero with a Victoria Cross to his name, tough as nails, scared of nobody. He's also a collaborator who worked with the Nazis to round up Jews and deport them to concentration camps. These are the stories of how John Rossett starts to regain his humanity. Great stuff.
A great gritty story set in Nazi-occupied Britain where no side is black and no side is white and all the shades of grey in between are fighting each other for dominance. I could see the action in my mind's eye which is always a good indicator of a book well-written, and a scene well-set. In this miasma of conflicting loyalties, our hero, if such he be, must make decisions and try to serve all interests so as not to end up dead.
Good interesting story. Book 2 in a good series. Like the backdrop of UK under German rule not long after the war. The characters are ok but can't say you warm to any of them. Action, fast pace story and easy read. I like it.
Fantastic read. Gritty and very absorbing. Lots of intriguing characters and grey gloomy atmospherics. Read all three books in a row and feel a void without the next. Hopefully, there will ay least be a fourth in sequence. Great stuff
4.5* read I love this alternative reality series. The relationship between the 2 main characters is continually developing. I already know from the characters changing within this book that the series is going to keep on getting better and better. I look forward to the next one!
John Rossett, ordinary copper, in a Nazi controlled Britain after winning WWII. King and Churchill hiding in Canada, Hitler alive and well, Oswald Mosely is the PM. Think that is comp!icated, welcome to the world of Mr. Schumacher. If you want a good read this series is it
Fantastic sequel to The Darkest Hour, had me hooked from the 1st chapter again. It was like meeting up with old friends again, even though technically we shouldn't like some of them! You end up taking every step with Rossett, I felt like I was looking over his shoulder wherever he was! Both books would make an excellent Christmas Present to family or friends
Love the wit and characterisation of Rossett, but all the main characters are well drawn and realistic. The author has done a terrific job of creating a credible alternative history and weaving an engaging and fast paced plot.
