I do like my historical fiction to bear some reality to the circumstances relating to the period in which the story is set. This bears none whatsoever. Daughters inheriting duchies were rarer than hens' teeth and neither males nor females gained majority at eighteen. That only happened in England in the latter half of the 20th century! I did persevere and finish this book, mostly to find out what the awful family secret was. Even that was disappointing. I can't find anything to recommend this book and rather resent what I consider the waste of my time spent reading it.
