This book covers all the bases, in a light hearted style. It's very good at making you consider what you need to be thinking about if you're a PM.
It suffers slightly from being over general and therefore lacking in specifics. You will need to find a book applicable to your own context to give you the real skinny on what you need to know.

If you want a book that is going to help you project manage then get this one.
For those who are new to project management and want to get grips with the basics this provides an excellent start; offering an accessible initiation without scaring the ... off you. A good confidence boost from the start! The Idiot Guides are great because they are easy to understand and they explain all the basics.

I work for a firm of management consultants who try to teach what this book says but take ten times as long over it. This book has perspective and common sense.

This is so easy to read and understand, but still giving you enough to actually do the business. I still use it for report outlines and reminding me of all the stuff that its easy to ignore. Its the only PM book I have, everything else I've read is just too boring and technical, managing projects is doing stuff in the real world. This doesn't over-complicate it and actually really helps!

I found the book very helpful for me to understand how to start out in PM. In particular, the initiation and planning phase of the book was terrific in helping me add some structure when confronted with new projects. These two parts of the book explained to me the basics of Gantt charts, network diagrams, WBSs, and the like. I wasn't much for the second half of the book (executing, controlling, and closing). If you have a basic business background, most likely you'll find the second half pretty much common sense.
If you're new to PM and new to business, then this book is great. If you're new to PM but not to business, get the book to introduce you to the tools by reading the first half. Skip the second half and then go find a more indepth book, or look at the PMBOK.

This book takes a lighthearted approach to a serious subject and makes the process of project management easy to understand and follow. Get this book if you have too many projects and not enough success in getting them done on time and with happy results.
