Vietnam: An Epic History of a Divisive war
5 October 2018
I am still in the early stage of this book, working through the French Indochina period. I have been reading this book along side Graham Greene's "The Quiet American" which was referenced by Hastings. The two together are a beautiful melange. Hastings precise and historically correct and Greene giving a mood to it and filling in so much of how it was to be there at that time. The colonialist incompetence and corruption, the American brashness and the world weary voice of the Greene narrative. I am really enjoying this journey and I hope that Hastings references other works in later periods. It'll keep me going all year! Great idea.
