This is an excellent book, it's a very interesting read and a totally captivating story. Although, the actual product has a major flaw; It is very weak. As is the same with all the latest Tolkien paper back releases, they are very flimsy and can be damaged easily. If you plan on keeping this inside a bag, then be warned it will get damaged. Still a great book though.

Tolkien works his magic and takes you to the ancient times of his marvelous world and lets you witness this heart aching and beautiful legend
Does not matter if you have read The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings..this is a different style though equally entertaining, if not more so.
If you like this, you have to read The Silmarillion, and vice versa.

Strictly for the Tolkien fan this version of the story, written after The Lord of the Rings. It has appeared earlier in other versions. As usual good and informative comments by Christopher Tolkien.
A cruel and sad story which obviously fascinated Tolkien. Completely lacking in the humour which makes Lord of the Rings so enjoyable

Yes Tolkien's son has done a good job of presenting the book and explaining as much as he can. Furthermore Alan Lee's drawings are, as always, top drawer. However I thought the story was depressing and the number of names/characters used started to annoy me. I never ended up caring about any of the characters. Overall average.

Found the books in very good condition. Even though I have two of the books The Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales I had not read Children of Hurin. The Silmarillion takes you from the beginning before Sauron and Melko alias Morgoth and Unfinished Tales talks labout after the Lord of the Rings

Fantastic read and further look into such a huge historical character from the third age, Turin Turambar, what a life! Fantastic how the extracts used were compiled from the works specifically for or at least more intended for the relevance of this story, from the Narn!

If you loved The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit but you're left wondering about the elder days and how it all came to be, The children of Hurin is one of the books you need to add to your future need to read books alongside The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.

The main reason LOTR is so widely enjoyed is because you have Hobbits. They are the laymen, they don't know much about history, elves or any other creatures. In this way you have a narrative that introduces you to all the wonders of middle-earth. Take them away and you have a long tale of strange happenings that you struggle to understand.
The Children of Hurin has no Hobbits if you can get past this it is a fantastic, dark and realistic tale, I personally can't put it down but many people will hate it. It reads a bit like a history book.
All in all I think this is much better than the other Tolkien works released after his death and well worth the wait.

Brilliant book. Still reading through this and am enjoying every minute of it. What makes it even better is I'm listening to the audible version while reading along with it and the narrator is Christopher Lee himself. As for delivery and all other things 5/5

It is what I expected and more. Wonderful version of this book for my Tolkien collection and looks great on my book shelf next to my other deluxe slipcase editions. The only down side was how long it took to get this book which was over three weeks.
