Very good-bye cause it provides a very readable insight into the real Sissinghurst by a man who has the real Sissinghurst at heart

Having lived adjacent to sissinghurst for many years and I have huge affection for the estate and house- it was a wonderful opportunity to learn so much of the history and much previously untold history of this fascinating family and house. Beautifully bound and presented .

After watching the TV series I bought this book to find out what problems Adam and Sarah faced bringing their new ideas to Sissinghurst thinking the TV series showed them in a bad light! I as glad to read the parts that refered to this but thought that the rest of the book did 'go on a bit'!

This book is really interesting, as at the moment I am doing Geneology and it turns out that some of my ancestors with the surname of baker actually owned Sissinghurst Castle

The TV series was undignified. Adam attempts to negotiate with the National Trust, staff and other interested parties to reunite Sissinghurst estate and castle was not welcomed with open arms. The book explains his approach and belief it could be done and could work. It's a shame he wasn't able to succeed; perhaps he will in the future. Having known and loved Sissinghurst all my life I enjoyed reading its unfinished history and hopes for the future.

Definiely written as the son and grandson of great writers, Nigel Nicolson and Vita Sackville-West. Beautifuuly written to evoke the history and romance of an amazing property through time.

This is a superb book on many levels, but it gives a sense of place so beautifully. The English do this so well.
