The poorest of the trilogy. Typically of a middle book this is bridge between the far better first and third, positioning the major players for the finale. Sadly this is the case for most trilogies. Authors have a great start and a cracking finish but the mechanism for getting from the former to the latter is the difficult part.
Having said all that Julian May has come up with a new approach to the fantasy genre with some very original uses and limitations.
If you enjoy fantasy you'll enjoy the trilogy

Follows fairly seemlessly to the first book of the Trilogy and my brief comments on Boreal Moon still apply.
