5.0 out of 5 starsA truly inspirational book
30 April 2014
We seem to live in a world, particularly where dating web-sites abound, in which, as soon as there is a hint of conflict in a relationship, one or both of a couple instinctively runs for cover. This beautifully written, inspiring book should be read by anyone who really aspires to be in a loving relationship that works.
I am in my mid-60s and wish it had been available to me forty years ago. Buy it for your kids, your partner, anyone you care about.

3.0 out of 5 starsActually, 5 stars and 1 star
14 October 2012
I wanted to rate this book at 5 stars because I connected on a deep level with what it had to say. In reading it, I gained a lot of insight into my situation and began to see that things didn't have to be the way they are. It was moving and could end up being one of the most important books I've ever read! From this point of view I would recommend this book to anyone in a relationship.
However, I also want to rate it 1 star because at the end I was left a bit high and dry. I was looking for some next steps but it seems that without a spare few hundred quid for counselling or one of their (great sounding) courses, there was nowhere to go, not even another book to buy. I could have done with a few practical pointers as to where to begin the process under my (our) own steam. I understand that every couple is different, but surely some general guidance is possible for those of us without a great deal of spare cash. I would still recommend this book to anyone, though.

I purchased this after reading a little about it in a newspaper article. It did not disappoint. I would say it is for any couple, whether you are experiencing difficulty or not. It helps you to think about why we react and feel the things we do, how relationships take work and willing strength and understanding from each party. It offers hope if you are prepared to question, accept and grow as an individual and be open to allow your partner to do the same. It is well written, and comes from a good back ground of knowledge and experience. I highly recommend this book

Loving someone can seem such a minefield ... and so many things we learn ... but how to make sense of all the lessons. This book pulls all the pieces together we experience in trying to love and be loved into something that makes sense... least ways to me it does.

Every couple could do with a copy of this on their shelf...to read when they first get together, and again when the first bloom fades, and again....and again.....throughout a lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 starsEssential reading, sensitively written
3 August 2011
Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase
I very strongly recommened this book to all couples whether your are struggling with problems or just wanting to grow your relationship.

The book focuses specifically on married couple's relationships and reveals the beliefs and dynamics that drive us and hence our marriage relationship. Rather than prescribing how to fix marriage problems it opens the doors to your understanding and holds the door open for you, inviting you to step through and pursue the required path.

One of the core tenets of the book is that conflict is inevitable and a necessary and healthy part of a relationship; The key is to notice what the conflict is revealing, inviting you to see. I also like how they speak of focussing on `I' rather than `you' as in one's partner. Your partner is but a mirror in which you can look and learn about yourself and your behaviours and so grow. From that growth can flower an enduring, loving relationship with and your partner.

Very sensitively written and evoling.
