Blackwell's sent this package quite fast and it arrived in excellent condition too. Asimov is a legend in the science fiction field. For anybody who has yet to read his work, remedy that, you will not be disappointed by this great writer.

I bought this purely because it was the exact edition (right down to the cover art!) that I first read at my school library as a kid, and my first time discovering Asimov's work. The stories are great, but with the benefit of years of experience I can safely say this is a poor man's "Complete Collection". While a large chunk of Asimov's stories are here, it is missing "Nightfall", which is inexplicable to say the least.

Let me repeat that. This edition (despite what other reviews say) DOES NOT include Nightfall. If you want a more complete collection then buy ISBN: 978-0385416276. It is a much better collection.

This is a nostalgia buy for me

This is a collection of stories which demonstrates the full range of Isaac Asimov's ability from adventure to romance and from suspense to humour. There is something here for everyone including the excellent "Nightfall" which still stands today as a gem of modern science fiction. In my opinion this collection is not quite as strong as the first volume but is equally deserving of a read.

Be aware that these are not the complete stories of Isaac Asimov (hence only 1 star; the stories themselves are 5 star). The Collins paperback edition, volume 1, has 25 stories; the Collins paperback edition, volume 2, has a further 23 stories. The Doubleday hardback edition, volume 1, has all the 48 stories in Collins editions vol 1 and 2; the Doubleday hardback edition, volume 2, has a further 40 stories, not found in either of the Collins volumes. So essentially Collins are short-chaning on the stories, they contain only about half (48 stories) of the complete set (88 stories). If you want the complete stories - all 88 of them - only buy the Doubleday versions.

When it comes to scifi, Asimov is the master.
Every story is well thought out and original, many of them have little morals; probably all of them will make you think.

And of course "The Last Question" is really beautiful.

I think Asimov with his short stories caters for the more scientifically inclined, more the thinking mans writer, but even still a layman with no interest in science would still be able to grasp the subject matter through good story telling.

Repeated stories from the chronicles, waste of money.

This collection of stories firmly establishes Isaac Asimov as the greatest science fiction writer ever. He skillfully writes about a broad variety of themes with imagination, realism and characters that you can almost touch. This book also contains "The Last Question" which I feel is almost certainly his most profound story ever and just has to be read.

it's incredible how stories written half a century ago are still so actual. But the most amazing thing is the quality of the writing. Asimov can catch you from the first page, which is rather important in very short stories
There is not one story that you can miss, but for your life duo not miss"the last question"

50 or so sides are missing inside. Would recommend for those who like to fill in the gaps when they read books.

It is a used item, but the quality is outstanding, with absolutely no usage marks. For its appearance, it may as well be an unused book.
