This is a fantasic book which deals with many subjects. The part of the story told by the film fills only the first few chapters, and it is a wonderful privalege to share in the rest of the story so intimately written. Read on in amazement with the family as they move to America, laugh with them at their mistakes, cry with them over their tragedies and rejoice with them in their successes. The family's story is one of many twists and turns, and this book will delight everyone, from the Von Trapp family fan to the merely interested reader. Read about their amazement at America, their difficulties in arriving there and settling in. Meet their friends and neighbours, and marvel at the family's perserverance and determination when faced with all kinds of challenges. Enjoy Maria's sense of humour and share with her all her experiences. This is a real page turner that everybody, not just 'Sound of Music' fans, will enjoy.
I loved this book, but that's because I love the Sound of Music film. Although of course the book and film are completely different there are few little stories that you will say "oh my God that's just like the film", but they are only a few and the film only covers the first couple of chapters of the book. I love that this book follows the Von Trapp family through the whole story, Maria and the Captain's love developing, the move to America, the children growing up and getting married and having children of there own and the Von Trapp Music camp. This book takes you through a series of emotions from giddy smiles at the film recognition, the laughs at the mistakes made due to innocence and tears of joy and sadness. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
