Could be better if solo written by either author, Bob Shaw is mentioned in dedication, yippee
on 3 October 2017
Excellent start, typical of Clarke books, with a cocktail party introduction of the cast -- in this case, the launch party of some new technology. Sadly it then gradually drops down to pretty average writing quality, and both of the authors here are capable of better on their own, particularly Baxter, which is why this only gets three stars. The idea however is top-notch for the genre, and purloins its title from Bob Shaw, who is mentioned in the dedication.
Like all co-written novels these days, its suffers from being written pretty much to order, with publishing deadline etc, so can't really be more than just a lowest-common-denominator effort as far as the writing goes. "Could do better"....hmmmm.
