Well that snow came down hard and fast and before we knew it we had several inches down. So I went for my trusty Ellesse boots in the garage only to find that the soles had departed from the uppers.....old age, I'm afraid....they were about 20 years old but had served me very well.
So, a pair were needed in fast order as otherwise there was no way of going out for my daily (covid) exercise walk as all my other shoes were not grippy enough. So, it was more to do with sizing than anything that led me to this pair of Grisport Avenger boots in waxed brown leather which turned up the following day courtesy of Prime.
However, upon opening, I was mortified to see that despite the packaging being new and unopened that one boot showed EU 45 (on the tongue) whereas the other showed EU 46 and the required sizing being UK11.5 (EU 46) I thought that I would be sending them straight back. But nonetheless, I tried on the first boot (right foot and my larger foot) and found that it was fine although it would certainly not be taking a thick sock! Then I tried the other boot (left, but my foot with a bunion) and that fitted fine too) but again, would not take a thick sock! I think the word "snug fit" would apply to both feet as I then proceeded to walk around the house in them and deciding that they were going to be OK, I set out for my walk with my wife into a snowy and freezing cold evening for a couple of miles walk. During the brisk walk, I found that the boots were actually very comfortable and very supportive especially when walking over "cobbled ice" where numerous feet had walked in snow earlier and this had now turned into uneven iced patches. Indeed, not once did they lose grip either and, upon inspecting my feet at the end of the walk, found no red marks upon my feet, indicating a really good fit - so I am more than happy with the purchase.
However, while just cleaning them over before putting them away for the night, I did inspect the soles and found that in fact BOTH boots were actually EU46 so that it was just an error by whoever attached the label to the tongue that had shown one boot to be size EU45.....how very odd, and it didn't get picked up in QC!!
