I just bought this machine and it is amazing for regular sewing: so simple - you just press a button and it does what you want it to do. No thinking involved :) Brilliant.
It was a little bit shocking for me to discover, that every time you want to dust away the fluff accumulating around the feed dog or free the fabric trapped inside you need to literally unscrew the whole plate to access the right place. I never had a machine with drop in bobbin system before and I guess this is the downside of it.

ALPHABET - my main reason for buying this machine - is a disaster. I was told by many people, that I can't expect any nice results from a regular sewing machine. I would need to invest in an embroidery machine but... I didn't believe them, because the promo videos Singer puts on various websites don't look bad at all. I tried alphabet on 5 or 6 different types of fabric. It was horrific. The letters are either disjointed or too tight together and crooked. It didn't look good even on thick canvas (the green picture).
The font can't be altered, just one size and 1 look.

If you would like to personalise your clothes and think, that buying this machine will save you a couple of quid THINK AGAIN. You probably won't be able to achieve the desired effect.
I'm saving for an embroidery machine now :)

And lastly, this machine seems to be really slow. I really tried to overcome my irritation but I didn't manage and actually this was the main reason why I have returned it. I don't quite understand it, because after doing a bit of research I found out, that this machine should achieve up to 750 stitches per minute. My old Elna 240 was supposed to be almost the same (up to 800stitches), but the difference seemed to be huge. Waiting for singer to do it's job was simply boring and irritating and I never had any of these problems with Elna.

SUMMARY:
- if you sew little, slowly and rarely, and don't need the alphabet it will be a wonderful machine for you. Great for Beginners.I'd definitely buy it for my kids, so that their learning experience is smooth and pleasurable
- if you have some experience, know what you are doing and like sewing fast don't buy it.
- if you hope to embroider text on your garments - definitely don't buy it

I hope this helps!

I am delighted with my new machine. It has tackled every task so far with ease. I previously used a top of the range (in 1972) mechanical machine which used changeable cogs for different stitches. I am enjoying exploring what this one can do. I like the weight of it and the drop-in bobbin is wonderful.

This is such a wonderful machine. I'm only just learning to sew and I was hesitant about spending this amount of money but I am glad I did. It is so versatile and gives learners to potential to grow. It's very quiet and sturdy. The manual was easy to follow and there are so many stitch choices to get really creative. It doesn't have a hard cover so I recommend buying a bag.

I bought this for my Wife, who's 52 Year old Sewing Machine finally gave up. This machine is excellent and does about anything one requires. The Manual is fairly good but could be better as some of the pictures are a little small, especially for threading the Needle. The Packing of the machine by Singer was good but the cardboard at the bottom had been badly screwed up. The other Box it was put in was fine but some idiot had packed it, there was screwed up Brown Paper that was not stopping the Machine Box from moving about and did not give it ant cushioning.
