The NH-L9i is a premium quality quiet CPU cooler for Intel LGA115x based HTPCs and Small Form Factor systems. At a super-low profile of only 37mm, the NH-L9i is ideal for extremely slim cases and due to its 95x95mm footprint, it provides full compatibility with tall RAM modules and VGA cards on mini-ITX mainboards. The custom designed SecuFirm2 mounting system for LGA115x makes installation a child’s play and thanks to the highly optimised NF-A9x14 premium fan that supports fully automatic speed control via PWM, the NH-L9i runs remarkably quiet. Topped off with Noctua’s renowned NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-L9i fuses everything users have come to expect from Noctua’s larger coolers into a super-compact package for slim HTPC systems.
37mm low profile
Due to the slim 23mm heatsink and the NF-A9x14 low profile fan that measures only 14mm in thickness, the NH-L9 stands a mere 37mm tall, which makes it ideal for use in compact HTPCs or Small Form Factor cases that offer minimum clearance for CPU coolers.
100% RAM compatibility
The NH-L9i has a 95x95mm footprint that complies exactly to the Intel LGA115x socket keep-out zone. This means that it won't cause issues with chipset coolers and doesn't overhang the RAM slots, so it's fully compatible with tall memory modules.
100% compatibility with PCIe cards on mini-ITX
Most Intel LGA115x based mini-ITX mainboards have the PCIe slot sitting right next to the 95x95mm socket zone. While larger coolers that exceed this zone are likely to block the PCIe slot, the 95x95xmm sized NH-L9i provides full compatibility with PCIe cards.
Scope of delivery
The NH-L9i is a highly-compact low-profile quiet cooler designed for use in small form factor cases and HTPC environments. While it provides first rate performance in its class, it is not suitable for overclocking and should be used with care on CPUs with more than 65W TDP (Thermal Design Power).

Box/Unboxing: The box and unboxing experience is very premium, you get some high performance thermal paste to the right, a low noise adaptor on the left, a very very nice metal piece to stick on your case above the cooler, then the cooler itself in the middle with the four mounting screws below that.
Thermal Paste: I didn’t use this as i’ve got some other stuff so unfortunately i can’t comment on it, but i looked it up and apparently it's actually pretty good compared to some mainstream pastes like the Arctic MX-4
Low Noise Adaptor: Again, i don't use this, but, i can without a doubt say this is not needed at all. Don’t understand why they include this as the fan is by far the quietest fan i’ve ever seen (Or heard haha) im my life, but they do include performance metrics on the box for how the cooler performs with and without the adaptor, but honestly as i said, it's really not needed as the fan is already silent without
Metal Peice: Not much to say about this, it's like a said really premium, unlike all other companies that just include a crappy sticker, this is actually a piece of metal with some 3m tape included already on the back, all you have to do is peel it and stick it.
Cooler/Fan: Very nice fan, cannot put into words how quiet the fan is, i’ve used a lot of fans in my time being on pc and i’ve never heard one as quiet in my life, at 1200rpm you cannot hear it, over fans i’ve tried at that speed sound like jet engines.
As for the cooler, it is also very nice and does a good job keeping my CPU cool, nice and low profile and fits perfectly in the Fractal Node 202.
Mounting: The mounting process is really easy and simple and what i like best is that there is no backplate, never used a cpu cooler before that doesn’t have a backplate and i must say it's a luxury to have
Performance: As i’ve already said the fan is nice and quiet so i won’t talk about that anymore, so i will now move on to my temperatures.
So i have this is the Fractal Node 202 which is a very small form factor case and the cpu fan is the only source of cooling the CPU gets , which by the way is the Intel Pentium G4600 so take those into account, also for thermal paste i'm using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and with all these factors in mind i get 30c at idle and at full load i get 60c, not even kidding i’ve never gone past 60c on this CPU which is insane for the setup i have.
Overall: It's just a great cooler by a great company, it's very well thought out and you may think £36 is a lot for a CPU cooler but you get a lot included and as i said it's all very premium so when you take all that into account its actually a bargain! 10/10 Highly Recommended!
In all that time, it has never gotten audible, and temperatures have never gotten above 65. I, personally, find that unbelievable. I was advised not to even try i5 ITX gaming in this case without a closed-loop watercooler for the CPU. And yet - here we are. Zero problems.
Oh, a side note about Noctua's warranty: it's amazing. I did have an unrelated issue in 2014 with the fan bearings getting noisy. They immediately, with no quibbles, sent a replacement in the post. The replacement turned out to have the same fault; I emailed them again, and they replaced it again. No issues since, so I think I was just unlucky, but what a great company for service.
I also fitted a little piezo speaker in my mini-itx build. Just to get a tiny beep to confirm the computer has been started.
The lack of the background noise is eerie, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
When I opened the box - I was wondering what that cable adaptor in it was, I then read that it enables the ''silent'' mode for the cooler. Well - I attached it and set it to ''silent'' in the BIOS. And - I could not hear anything from it in a mini ITX case with a big opened mesh two feet from my head. At first I thought that the fan was not spinning at all - so I put my ear right on the mesh - then I could hear a slight noise and I realised that it works on very low revs. I then decided to test it under load - assuming that it won't be able to cool the CPU with this low revs..started Cinebench and opened a temp monitor programme..well - the noise did not raise a bit - and the temps were under 60%...amazing! Even put on the other, higher REV's setting - the noise it produces is pretty nice and in the low-pitched range, so - even if it is close to you it does not disturb. Most likely it will be much quieter that your power supply fan.
I have used laptops with monitors attached to them as my desk machines in the last years, so I became pretty intolerable to computer fan noises, but I can live with this fan any day.
The box contains everything you'll need to replace another cooler, such as heatsink compound and fan adapter cables.
I looked at the reviews before I bought saying it's quiet but was not sure if the reports were correct. I can confirm that it is genuinely extremely quiet. Very hard to hear while in Windows 10. Highly recommended.
